About Us

Our Story...

In April of 2017, River's Edge Apiary founder, Heath Quiles, along with his husband, Joshua, first brought two nucleus colonies into their backyard in the Eagle Hill neighborhood of Albany, NY.  That first year was full of many adventures, as both Heath and Joshua, along with their many patient neighbors, learned the trials and tribulations associated with urban beekeeping.

River's Edge Apriary (at that time, called AllBeeNY Apiaries) quickly turned into a community resource for sustainable urban beekeeping, providing seasonal local honey, lip balm, and pollinator education to residents of Albany, NY and the surrounding areas.

In 2021, with Heath's interest in bees growing, along with the number of colonies he had, Heath and Joshua started their search for a new home, and location.  Fortunately, by early 2022 they found their current property; a beautiful 5-acre farm home on the banks of the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, immediately adjacent to Vischer's Ferry Nature Preserve.

With nearly a dozen colonies on site each year, as well as a few off-site colonies, kept for educational purposes in Averill Park, River's Edge Apiary is busier than ever, and continues to grow.
